Recently, my 21-year-old fiancée had an AVM aneurysm that changed all our lives. We were told his right side would be non-reactive, he wouldn't be able to talk, and overall we were expecting the worst-case scenario. Then we met his amazing nurse, Shayna. Shayna explained everything to me, blood pressure ranges, ICP, and what I should look out for, and she truly made me feel so secure. Shayna does not treat her patients like a number. She genuinely cares about the success of her patients, all while being compassionate to the family. While my fiancée was in the ICU, she empowered him, let him know he would get through this tough time, and never gave up on him.

Fast forward one week, my fiancée is talking, singing and moving all parts of his body. This was all possible due to his nurse, Shayna. I am beyond blessed that she was assigned to his care. She is the one who got him where he is now. He is expected to leave the hospital next week and will make a full recovery. Shayna - thank you for everything and for saving my fiancée. You are a fantastic nurse, woman, and human. You are the definition of someone who truly deserves the DAISY Award.
