N was admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. This was only a few days after learning we had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Needless to say, we were a bit overwhelmed. Thankfully, we were blessed with a fantastic nurse who provided us with so much care and empathy in a very difficult time.
Throughout the stay, Shayna V. showed us kindness and compassion while providing N with an exceptional level of medical care. We always felt like she was on our team. During her shift, she made every effort to not only take care of N's medical needs but our emotional needs as well. At the end of each shift, she would check out with us, and would then provide her team with every detail of our day to ensure N received the best care even when she was gone. Her reports to the rest of the nursing team displayed her commitment to teamwork and her patient's care.
Shayna was there for us in an extremely difficult time. Her fantastic attitude and outlook brought us peace and solace. . . we couldn't have made it through this experience without her. We fully trusted her and felt the love and passion she has for her patients and profession. While we received great care from the whole staff on 3 East, Shayna went above and beyond to help us. She exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY Award recipient and is an extraordinary nurse. Thank you, Shayna!
