Shelby cares for pre cath, and post cath patients. She cares for TAVR and Watchman patients as well as pre and post-Electrophysiology patients. Shelby is a seasoned nurse with a critical care background. Her critical care experience serves her very well in caring for the patients in the holding area.

I am nominating Shelby Scott because recently, she has been acknowledged by multiple patients and their families for her outstanding bedside care. 2 weeks ago a patient insisted relentlessly that I come to his bedside in the holding area after his heart cath. He wanted to tell me what an amazing nurse he felt Shelby was. He complimented her bedside manner, her kindness, and her competent nursing care. He felt she was extremely professional, yet relaxed and friendly. He could not say enough about her and the entire team that delivered his care that day.

Last week we had a patient cardiac arrest in the holding area. Shelby acted quickly, as did the entire team, and the patient was revived rapidly with no extended negative effects. The patient came the next day for an ICD and was amazed and grateful. He remembered everything about the time leading up to his arrest and was so complimentary of Shelby and the care she delivered. He was close to tears upon seeing her the next day and was beyond appreciative.

Then today, I received a phone call from another grateful patient. This gentleman wanted to again tell us what a wonderful job Shelby did caring for him yesterday while he was in the department for his cardiac cath. He wanted to be sure he got to the right person to extend his thanks and be sure Shelby was recognized. 

Lastly, Shelby tries to be a team player. She was acknowledged by the manager on telemetry recently for helping with post care of our newest patient population, Watchman patients. She stayed some extra time at the bedside and was able to give direction for post care to the nurse that had a few questions. She was demonstrating the core value of Trust Working Together. 

Now, I know many patients receive outstanding care at Forbes. I also know many only call to complain or share the negative experiences. I think the effort of these patients to not only extend their gratitude, but to be sure Shelby's care is acknowledged speaks volumes for just how great a job she is doing at the bedside.

Shelby is a strong nurse and can be a strong leader. She is passionate about the care she delivers and holds others to a high standard. Shelby lives all the AHN core values, but especially Customer First, as demonstrated by the multiple acknowledgments she has had over the last 2 weeks.
