I recall a new nurse who had recently come off orientation found herself caring for a patient who had become increasingly confused and agitated. The situation was stressful and challenging, especially while trying to maintain patient safety and provide the care the patient required.

Sheena immediately stepped in to support the nurse. With calmness, patience, and confidence, she helped calm the patient and create a more reassuring environment. She spoke gently with the patient, taking time to orient and comfort them while also guiding the new nurse through the situation.

Once the patient was calmer, the RN assisted with placing a nasogastric tube (NGT), turning the moment into a teaching opportunity. She walked the nurse through each step, sharing her knowledge and clinical tips while ensuring the patient remained comfortable and safe throughout the procedure.

Her presence not only helped resolve a difficult situation but also empowered the new nurse with confidence and practical skills. The patient and family expressed their sincere gratitude for her patience, compassion, and expertise.

This moment perfectly reflects the impact of supportive leadership and mentorship in nursing. By stepping in with kindness, knowledge, and calm guidance, she made a meaningful difference for the patient, the family, and a nurse early in her career.

Thank you, Sheena, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
