I could write a whole notebook filled with the special things that the nursing staff on this floor has done for me and the other patients over the last 2 weeks! What a special group of people! You let your hearts and compassion guide your hands as you take care of each patient…and believe me, we notice and it makes a huge difference!
In the midst of all this, Sheila blew me and my family away in a totally unexpected way. Because of my accident and hospitalization, I was not able to do anything for my husband for Father’s Day. It was a big deal to me. Several nurses helped me brainstorm and think of a “coupon book”. However, there was nothing on the floor that I could use to make it. Sheila gave up her lunch hour to go to the store and buy construction paper, a huge package of markers, glue sticks and a couple of sets of stickers! They were perfect! As I pulled the goodies out of the sack, several nurse aides (four actually) came in and helped me brainstorm on ideas to put in my husband’s coupon book. When I gave it to him later that evening, he teared up. He said he’d rather have something homemade like that than something store bought, especially after almost losing me! He laughed, he cried, and he held my hand and told me how much he loved me!
Because of Sheila’s thoughtfulness, this Father’s Day was one of the most special and unforgettable ones we’ve ever had!
