Sheila not only made me feel reassured as a family member but also kept me calm as a covering provider, and because of her efforts, I felt confident and reassured that my friend was going to receive the care she needed.
When a very dear friend of mine and a patient of my IMG colleague had an acute CVA last week, I was placed in the difficult position of being both a distressed family member and covering physician for this patient. In her role as care management RN for the clinic, Sheila helped me navigate this situation with patience, grace, and a calming presence. She ensured that VNA services were arranged before my friend left the hospital and quietly stepped in to fill in any gaps in discharge planning when she identified them.
Sheila spent all morning the day after discharge ensuring that my friend got her discharge medications filled when Walgreens could not fill them for more than 24 hours. Sheila called around town and found a Walmart that had her seizure medication in stock. We were able to get her medications filled that morning because of this. Sheila not only made me feel reassured as a family member but also kept me calm as a covering provider, and because of her efforts, I felt confident and reassured that my friend was going to receive the care she needed. I would trust her with my own care or the care of my family members, and I am so grateful for her compassion and professionalism.
