Being new to the Ingalls family I was humbled and excited to see one of my coworkers go above and beyond for a patient. I observed Sheila Turner assisting a patient who was seen and came back 10 days later not to be seen but frustrated because he was unable to seek out or obtain a follow up for an orthopedic.
Sheila could have easily referred/reinforced follow-up that was noted on his previous discharge papers or reinforced to follow up with a PCP for a referral but she took the extra steps/effort to help this man. She looked up multiple orthopedics, called offices, and found this man an appointment within the next couple of days and made the appointment for this man, who was no longer a patient or someone she had responsibility for. She went above and beyond and it made me excited to observe the kindness that she and my other coworkers have demonstrated. This experience has made me excited to be a part of this new work family.
