Sheila Whiteside, RN

Sheila noticed the smallest details and needs of my dad while he was her patient. He loved joking with her, which she did as she cared for him. That made the unpleasant things easier for him. Dad was at NCH for almost a month, and Sheila was always a favorite, but his last day was Sheila's best. Dad was feeling sad, and Sheila tried everything to make him comfortable. It was hard work, yet she didn't give up and showed excellent problem-solving skills as she tried one thing and then another. Although Dad couldn't speak by that time, she treated him with dignity, explaining everything and speaking to him in a strong, reassuring manner. She wasn't the first nurse to suggest that Dad was failing and we had to make some hard decisions, but she was the kindest while also being truthful. All the nurses were great, but if I chose one, Sheila was the best!
