Shelbee Leihsing, RN
Shelbee had a Veteran on hospice transition to her final moments during Shelbee's shift. Shelbee not only had six other Veterans in her care, but she also took outstanding care of the Veteran's passing. Shelbee was in the Veterans room every 30 minutes assessing her and consulting with the provider to adjust medications and doses to keep the Veteran comfortable.
Shelbee provided the Veteran with care and dignity in addition to showing empathy and providing support to the family. I've seen several nurses provide hospice care; Shelbee's care stands out. Shelbee set the bar for what hospice nursing should be: grounded in compassion, led by integrity, and delivered with a heart full of purpose. It is not only the Veterans and their families who benefit from having Shelbee on the team, but the entire CLC also shines.
