I admit this is not my first interaction with Shelbie as her name is brought up frequently for rocking the role of charge nurse and being an advocate for the patients that she provides care for.
During a very unexpected medical emergency that occurred before I was even re-oriented to what had occurred after my fall, Shelbie was at my side providing care and support. As you can imagine as a nurse you never expect that you are the one who will be in need of medical care but on this date, I found that not only had I fallen, been unconscious but remained very confused and quite honestly a little scared. Shelbie stayed by my side with constant reassurance that everything was going to be fine. She even held my hand while I was having staples. I know all of this sounds like a typical day for a nurse, but Shelbie did all of this with grace, compassion, and empathy.
I admit this is not my first interaction with Shelbie as her name is brought up frequently for rocking the role of charge nurse and being an advocate for the patients that she provides care for. Just last week her name was brought up by our sepsis APRN for intervening on behalf of a sepsis patient and ensuring that the patient had all that they needed to move toward a full recovery.
So, I just want to say thank you, Shelbie, for being who you are and taking fabulous care of our patients, not just me.
