In fact, my dad was moved to tears watching Shelby care for S with such dignity and respect.
We want to take a moment to recognize and deeply thank Shelby, the admitting nurse in the Neuro ICU at United Hospital, who cared for our stepmom, S, when she was admitted. From the very first moment, Shelby showed kindness, empathy, and a genuine compassion that stood out to our entire family. She didn't just treat S's condition; she cared for her as a whole person. Shelby asked thoughtful questions, gathered insights from us as a family, and made sure to personalize S's care based on what she learned.
Throughout the weekend, when doctors were still trying to piece together the cause of S’s illness, Shelby was an unwavering advocate. She helped coordinate across the different medical teams, making sure nothing was overlooked, and that S was receiving not just the best care, but the safest.
When S became agitated or anxious, Shelby remained gentle, patient, and understanding. She was calm and professional, but also warm and lighthearted with our dad, who was feeling the weight of the situation. Dad really came to rely on Shelby's presence, especially when things felt overwhelming or confusing. She always made space for his questions, his worries, and even his frustrations. On top of all this, Shelby’s nursing skills were exceptional. She managed S’s lines, medications, and overall care with such precision and attentiveness. The way she positioned S and ensured her comfort, those little things, meant the world to us. In fact, my dad was moved to tears watching Shelby care for S with such dignity and respect. Shelby is everything you hope for in a nurse: compassionate, skilled, patient, and truly human. Our family will never forget the role she played in S's care during such a difficult time.
Thank you, Shelby, from the bottom of our hearts.
