Shelby made me feel comforted and cared about and made my worries about not being with my wife go away.
My wife was a patient in Observation during the time that no visitors were allowed. I knew she was declining and the plan was to set her up on hospice and get her home.
Shelby was the charge nurse the day I called and hoped to be able to get a clear update on my wife. Shelby understood that not being able to be with my wife as she was declining was a very difficult time for me. She spent time with me on the phone, listening to me, answering all my questions, and giving me a sense that our situation, our separation, was her utmost priority. She made me feel comforted and cared about and made my worries about not being with my wife go away.
She made me feel present without having to be physically there. She even started the process to get me an exemption to come visit, but we got my wife home sooner than I expected.
My wife passed away at home. I wanted Shelby to know how much I appreciated her actions and compassion for our situation...she made me feel like we mattered and truly cared about connecting me to my wife. Thank you, Shelby! Thank you for making a lasting impression!
