Shelby Savell, RN
There are people who come into your life for a moment, and then there are people who become part of some of your most important memories forever. That is exactly who Shelby has been for me.
She was my nurse during the delivery of both of my children, and I truly do not have enough words to explain the impact she made on me during those life-changing moments. Bringing a child into the world is one of the most vulnerable, painful, emotional, and unforgettable experiences a mother can go through, and somehow, she had a way of making me feel safe through every second of it.
When I was scared, she comforted me. When I felt overwhelmed, she grounded me. When I doubted myself, she reminded me I was stronger than I believed. She never made me feel like “just another patient.” She treated me with genuine kindness, patience, compassion, and care that came from her heart, and you can feel the difference when someone truly loves what they do.
What means the most to me is that she was there for two of the biggest days of my life. Out of all the people in the hospital, somehow, I was lucky enough to have her by my side not once, but twice. That is something I will carry with me forever. Years from now, I may forget small details about those stressful labor hours, but I will never forget the way she made me feel!
She celebrated with me during the happiest moments, encouraged me through the hardest ones, and helped bring both of my babies safely into this world with so much love and compassion. She made such an emotional and lasting impact on my experience as a mother that I genuinely tear up thinking about it.
Nursing is more than medicine, monitors, and medications. Sometimes it is being the calm voice in the room, the reassuring hand to hold, or the person who helps someone find strength when they feel like they have none left. That is exactly who she is.
She deserves this recognition more than I could ever put into words. I will forever be grateful that she was part of my story and part of the births of both of my children.
