Although I have not worked at East TN Children's Hospital for a very long duration, throughout my time here I have had the pleasure of working with Shelby and truly witnessed her excel as a nurse. Shelby upholds what our hospital stands for. Not only does she take care of her patients with the utmost amount of love and diligence, but she is also very attentive to the families as they are going through these stressful times. Shelby does not just take care of her patients' needs, she genuinely loves them and their families. No matter how stressful the situation is, Shelby always handles it with such grace.
Shelby is a team player on our floor; she is the first to offer help to other nurses and PCAs. When communicating with patients, families, and coworkers, Shelby always has such a positive glow that radiates to others. When I ask myself what qualities make up a great nurse, these characteristics come to mind: responsible, respectful, good communication skills, compassion, attention to detail, and being able to work well under pressure. I can truly say that Shelby possesses each of these traits because I witnessed it first-hand.
Without a doubt if someone in my family were sick, I would trust them being taken care of by Shelby. She is a hard worker and always one step ahead. I have been surrounded by various health care professionals throughout my schooling, internships, and employment, and Shelby exemplifies the most outstanding qualities that one would entrust their loved ones with. I hope that I am half the nurse that Shelby Stott is when I graduate.
