I went into preterm labor and had my little girl, L, at 23 weeks. Shelby was her primary nurse. Words cannot adequately express what she means to my husband and me. She went above and beyond for our little girl (and even crocheted her a blanket!). We saw her time and again advocate for our daughter when she felt strongly about her needs and her care. We were shocked when we learned she was only 25. She's so smart and talented. She noticed the little things about our daughter- her tendencies and dislikes. She told us she's never seen a baby love to lay on her back as much as our daughter did. She listened to us, she kept us informed, she worked tirelessly, she prayed with us, and she loved our little girl so much.
Shelby picked up extra shifts when our daughter had rough patches so that she could be there with her. At 35 days of life, our little girl was transferred to Augusta University for surgery, and Shelby sat with us through the entire night in the waiting room. She wasn't there because she had to be (she was off the clock); she was there because she wanted to be. Sadly, our daughter passed away that morning. Shelby held our hand through it all. In the days, weeks, and months following my daughter's death, Shelby continued to check in on us. She is far more than a nurse; she is an angel on earth. Our daughter brought this wonderful person into our lives who has made a greater impact on us than she will ever know. And we are so very blessed to know her.
Shelby- to you, we say, "Jump, Frog, Jump!"
