Her calm and collected nature kept me from panicking. Shelby was right there to help me make sense of what was going on.
In February, my son’s father was in a fatal car accident and brought into the Emergency Department. I was working that day and his mother asked the nurse if she could please call my unit and have me come down to the ED. Shelby called up to mother/baby and asked to speak with me, telling me what had happened and what was going on in the ED, and would it be possible for me to come down there. I told her I could, but I had no idea how to get there. Without hesitation, she offered to come to get me from mother/baby and take me down to the ED. Once we were down there and they told me what happened, Shelby quickly was there offering any help she could give me. She went to get my belongings from my floor, got my best friend (another nurse working that day), and made sure I had a safe ride home. Her calm and collected nature kept me from panicking. I was in complete shock and overwhelmed with the news and the number of people in the room, from doctors and nurses to police officers. Shelby was right there to help me make sense of what was going on. She was also quick to help others with any needs or questions she had. She is an amazing nurse and handled this tragic event in our lives with such a caring and professional attitude. I will forever be grateful for her.
