Shelia Urbanski, BSN, RN
During leader rounds, a patient shared profound gratitude for the care he received. He explained that on the night he arrived, he was in a very dark place both mentally and emotionally. It was Shelia Urbanski who welcomed him to the unit, and from the very beginning, she showed him genuine compassion and care.
The patient stated that Shelia spoke with him in a way that made him feel truly seen and valued. He expressed that her kindness and presence saved his life and that he is alive today because of her. He wanted Shelia to know the tremendous impact her care had on him, noting that it would change the course of his life forever.
He described feeling like he belonged, mattered, and was part of a family while on 3West. He even joked that if he ever returns, he will ask, “Where my dogs at?” (a lighthearted way of showing how deeply connected and comfortable he felt here.)
Shelia exemplifies the Riverside mission through her compassion, authenticity, and ability to make patients feel valued beyond their medical needs. Her care not only provided healing in the moment but also gave this patient strength and hope for the future. She is a true example of nursing excellence.
