Shellon Trout, LPN
I would like to nominate Shellon Troutt, LPN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication to our Veterans and her embodiment of the Department of Veteran Affairs ICARE values: Integirty, Commitments, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.
Shellon consistently demonstrates a bright, cheerful, and approachable demeanor that immediately puts veterans at ease. She treats every veteran with dignity and respect, creating a welcoming environment that reflects the VA's mission to honor and serve those who have served. Her compassion and professionalism foster trust and reinforce veteran-centered care in every interaction.
In addition to her outstanding patient care, Shellon shows a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration. She routinely goes above and beyond to support the Home Base Primary Care team, ensuring continuity of care and advocating for the needs of our most vulnerable veterans.
A powerful example of Shellon's clinical excellence and advocacy: While caring for a veteran who was an upper extremity amputee and had an extremely difficult venipuncture, she carefully reviewed the lab order and recognized that additional testing may be needed. Demonstrating critical thinking and initiative, she reached out to staff to obtain further orders. Through her diligence, she identified critically low hemoglobin and hematocrit levels that might otherwise have gone unrecognized. Her actions ensured timely intervention and may have ultimately saved this veteran's life.
Shellon exemplifies integrity through her thoroughness, commitment through her dedication to veterans and colleagues, advocacy through her vigilance in identifying critical needs, respect in every patient interaction, and excellence in her clinical practice. She truly reflects the highest standards of nursing within the VA system and deserves recognition through the DIASY Award.
