January 2016 Honoree
Shelly Babiracki, RN
My 12-year-old son was in the CVCC post cardiac surgery. On our 4th night in the hospital our scheduled nurse was moved from us. I had been barely able to keep things together already but after that I was a basket case. Shelly was the new nurse assigned to care for my son. When she introduced herself to me I broke down. Shelly not only took care of my son, but she also took care of my mental health. She treated my son perfectly, helped him play a joke on some unsuspecting nurses. She made sure that he was able to see fireworks out the window. Overall, we truly felt that she wanted to be D’s care giver. She allowed my husband and I to help with D’s care and didn’t makes us feel like we shouldn’t. I hope more nurses could be like her. Understanding the needs of the patient…age appropriate as well as the needs of parents is a great thing!
Thank you, Shelly, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
