As staff nurses, we often receive praise from our patients and their family members. We also receive praise from our charge nurses and managers. However, charge nurses often have to listen to complaints, "put out fires", and are seldom praised for their work from staff nurses. I would like to say something about Shelly. She puts 110% into everything she does. She handles problems that arise fairly and efficiently. She is a true nurse advocate, empathizing with the nurses under her charge. In addition to the many tasks that she has to perform as charge nurse, she selflessly offers to help the nurses on the floor and makes sure that they get their lunches, even though she hasn't had hers. She is constantly "in touch" with what is going on with the patients and the nurses, and one feels that she always "has your back". Despite working extra shifts as needed, she never complains about her schedule and never loses her cool. She maintains a sense of humor, even on days that are extremely busy. In a nutshell, she is one of the best charge nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with. We are extremely fortunate to have her on our unit.
