My husband was admitted to the ER on Friday. Saturday, he had emergency gallbladder surgery. After the surgery, we found out that he was septic. It was a frightening and stressful time for us. I met Shelly on Saturday morning before the surgery. We were so fortunate to have her as his nurse for the first 3 days of his 5-day stay. Her excellent nursing care helped us to better cope with the day-to-day challenges he faced. From day one, Shelly was genuinely kind and caring. She is hardworking and is extremely patient, and focused. She cared not only about her patients but their loved ones as well. Shelly’s communication skills and her attention to detail help to make her an exceptional nurse. We didn’t have to ask for anything because she had already anticipated what we were going to need. One evening when her shift was over, she came to the room and offered to walk my husband for a few minutes. He had not walked since the surgery. She knew he was going to have PT for the first time the next morning, and she wanted to minimize any anxiety he may have been feeling about the upcoming therapy…going above & beyond… that’s Shelly. Shelly Gilroy is the “BEST OF THE BEST.” Emory Hospital is very lucky to have her, and we were too! She truly deserves to be recognized.
