Back Story: My Husband and I have been trying to conceive for 3+ years. After several different procedures, we finally conceived through an Egg Donor and IVF. We were so excited to get the news that one of the embyos took from our transfer and that we were finally going to be parents. We went to the doctor to get clearance to go home to Minnesota for a funeral. When we were in the office they couldn't locate a heartbeat and confirmed that our daughter had passed away. This news was devastating coming to us 26 weeks along in our pregnancy. We were scheduled to go to the hospital for delivery the next day.
Immediately after meeting Shelly I recall turning to my husband and telling him that I really liked her. From that moment on, I was always cared for with great knowledge. She explained everything, step by step that we would be doing and thoroughly went through all our options along the way. She made sure that all my wishes were taken into account. She went over the medical procedure along with all our options with great compassion. You can tell that Shelly takes her job to heart. The love and caring support that we received from Shelly will always be part of our story when we talk about our daughter.
When I delivered my daughter, Shelly was there to make sure that everything went as we discussed and that I was comfortable. Delivering a baby that will never come home with you is the hardest thing that a couple can go through. She was so empathetic and caring. We never felt rushed to make a decision or like we should have had prior knowledge about what needed to be done. Everything was handled with grace and care.
This experience could have been so much different had I had another nurse other than Shelly that day. I am so thankful for her. I cannot express the gratitude that I feel for Shelly. The love and compassion that she puts into her patients is truly felt by everyone in the room.
You have a wonderful nurse on your staff and are lucky to have her working with your patients. Shelly helped us through one of the worst experiences in our life, making it not feel like the tragedy it was. She deserves the DAISY Award.
