Shelly at the GI Clinic went above and beyond to calm my husband's nervous fears before his procedure. My husband has been fighting stomach issues for three years and was hoping to finally figure out the reason.
We had not received adequate information about the test or instructions about what to expect. This made my husband have even more anxiety. We had received the dates for the test and procedure. Then I received a second call that said we had a colonoscopy scheduled. It was 3 days after another procedure and that didn't seem right. This only added to our apprehension of what was to come. I called the Mercy GI Clinic and was transferred to Shelly. I explained our confusion and she calmly and professionally found the mix-up and corrected it. She then explained the whole procedure in detail to us.
My husband has been dealing with food allergies to gluten, dairy, soy, and eggs. He had lost sodium and was on a 2200 cc liquid restriction. We explained all of this to Shelly. She immediately shared the allergies that are in her family and reassured us that there were alternatives for his prep that would not interfere with his kidneys. His stress level and anxiety immediately started to go down. Finally, we had found someone who understood the stress of the past three years.
Shelly gave us her direct work phone number and told us to call her with any questions we still had. A ray of sunshine and feeling of hope filled the room with her understanding and professional answers and reassurance. The test procedure went as she had described and we found hope of finding an answer to his problem. We feel that we have a friend in Mercy for years to come.
