My wife came into the Emergency Room for uncontrollable pain. She has stage 4 breast cancer and was admitted into oncology. Shelly was her nurse. My wife had a psychotic event and was hallucinating. Earlier that day I drove home to Grove, OK to take care of our puppies. I received a call from Shelly stating that my wife was trying to leave and asked if I would talk to her, but she didn’t recognize me or the nurses. She was trying to escape the room and yelling at the top of her lungs. Shelly kept her in her room till I arrived back. There was a lot more involved in the situation, but I would have to write a book. Shelly was pushed, yelled at, and water was thrown, yet through all this, still showed compassion to my wife.

When her shift was over, Shelly came back into the room and told my wife that she completely understood and the situation could happen to anyone. In fact, I think Shelly had to stay over to finish her paperwork and charting. The whole Oncology Department is wonderful, understanding, compassionate, and caring! I love this hospital!

Note: This is Shelly's 2nd DAISY Award!

Thank you, Shelly, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
