Sher's exceptional efforts in resolving this confusing, perplexing situation provided a tremendous sense of relief, and M received the therapy she needed at convenient times.
I am nominating Sher Ramirez, RN, the weekend supervisor at Bruceville Terrace, for the outstanding service she has provided as the go-to-weekend-troubleshooter, and I am especially grateful for her efforts.

The back story is that my daughter, M, had been hospitalized three times for various reasons related to breathing difficulties, including a COVID diagnosis. Each time she was released from the hospital, she returned to Bruceville Terrace with a litany of doctors' orders and prescription changes, a challenging situation for her caregivers, who had been accustomed to a fairly uncomplicated routine. A compression-percussion therapy (CPT) machine called "The Vest," on loan from Methodist Hospital, accompanied her on her last release.

Doctor P had overseen M's care in the hospital, and her orders dictated that M receive continued treatment at Bruceville Terrace for an extended period of time because of the measurable benefits The Vest use provided. In the hospital, The Vest therapy occurred three times a day, at set times, over a 12-hour period, with a one-hour prelude during which her feeding tube was turned off. Once back at Bruceville Terrace, the schedule was changed to two therapies over a 12-hour period at reasonable times of 8 am and 8 pm. Then, late on Friday afternoon, after all daytime administrative staff and supervisors had left for the day, I learned the schedule had been changed the day before, back to three times a day at 12 noon, 6 pm, and 12 midnight. I was aghast; I did not know who had made the change, and I had no one to consult. That's where Sher came in.

On Saturday, I laid out the dilemma, the back story, the confusion, and my frustration. She listened patiently, grasped the situation, and said she would dig into the matter to learn how all the changes came about and how to remedy the situation if there was a remedy. A little later that afternoon, she came by the room with a sheaf of computer printouts with a history of the underlying events resulting in the confusing orders and said she had sent an email to the facility's doctor with the backup documentation, requesting adjustments be made to mimic the hospital's schedule for therapy at 8 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm. I was delighted and relieved to learn the next day, Sunday, that the doctor had indeed amended the CPT order to mimic the hospital schedule, as requested.

Sher's exceptional efforts in resolving this confusing, perplexing situation provided a tremendous sense of relief, and M received the therapy she needed at convenient times. I am grateful for Sher going above and beyond to resolve the issue - thank you, Sher!
