Sheri Carter is hands down, a real-life angel. My words will not be able to adequately illustrate all the amazing ways she helped me, my younger sister, and our Mother during the worst time in all of our lives.
Sheri Carter stepped into our lives when things were at their absolute worst. We had lost our Dad unexpectedly in January and before we knew it, our Mom, who had been battling head/neck cancer since 2018, took a turn for the worse at the end of January 2022. Being a nurse myself, I knew our Mom didn’t have long, and now myself and my sister were faced with caring for our dying Mom while we were still in the shadows of processing our Dad’s recent and unexpected death. There are so many special things I could say about how Sheri and the Hospice Team helped us through the most terrible time of our lives, but for the sake of my emotions getting the best of me as I write this, I will keep it brief… Sheri knew how to handle our Mom within moments of meeting her. Our Mom was not the “ideal patient,” she was difficult and challenged everything anyone wanted to do to help her to manage her worsening symptoms.
• Our Mom was also not accepting that she was nearing the end of her life, although we all knew otherwise, so our Mom’s expectations were not in touch with her reality, making Sheri’s work that much more challenging.
• To make things even more interesting for Sheri, she was also challenged by having the patient’s two daughters, who both work in healthcare, and both recently grieving the unexpected loss of their father. Even with those challenges, Sheri shined. She knew how to manage everyone….our Mom, me, and my sister. Sheri kept us informed every step of the way and always went above and beyond what would have been expected of her. She would call and text me well past her working hours just to make sure I was updated on any changes or concerns that were going on. Sheri Carter is hands down, a real-life angel. My words will not be able to adequately illustrate all the amazing ways she helped me, my younger sister, and our Mother during the worst time in all of our lives. Please give this real-life angel the DAISY Award and recognize her for the amazing work she does day in and day out, without hesitation.
In loving memory of our Father and our Mother and our amazing Hospice Nurse, Sheri Carter, my nephew, born in September was named Carter.
