Recently an 80-year-old patient came to the Emergency Room by ambulance due to a suicide attempt. The patient lives alone, has no family in the area, and felt like no one cared about her. Sheri was assigned to take care of this patient on a day when the ED was busy. Sheri made the time to sit next to the patient's bed, hold her hand and Sheri lean forward towards the patient and she let this patient talk and cry about why she was so sad. After Sheri left the patient's room, the positive impact that she made on this patient's attitude was immediately seen by all the staff. Sheri daily demonstrates what a compassionate and caring RN she is and is an excellent example of what ED RNs should aspire to be.
