My husband was transferred to Beaumont in Royal Oak from a hospital in Flint. Their ER told him he had a broken femur, which needed surgery, and a huge mass that was cancer. Our experience at Beaumont was exceptional from the time we got there. We had such great nurses, doctors, therapists, and nursing assistants.
We live over an hour away and I did not want to leave him. I was afraid he might need me or I might miss a doctor making their rounds in the morning. We were sharing a room the first two nights with a gentleman so there wasn't anywhere for me to really sleep or shower. For 2 nights I slept at the tiny extension of my husband's hospital bed.
He had his surgery and they were discussing treatments for the multiple myeloma. The 3rd day we had the pleasure of Sherri Tatu. Her personality was just what we needed. She was so positive and fun! She insisted on getting us to a private room, as the floor was slow. After we moved to the private room, she even laid out the chair-type furniture into a bed and made it up for me. I was so thankful just to get somewhere I could lay down and shower! She did so many things to keep our spirits up and make it the most comfortable & convenient possible.
Sherri brought my husband his favorite cookies, big chocolate chip chunks and even still warm chips, salsa, guacamole, and his favorite pop. She brought a little candy for the holiday and even arranged for a filet steak dinner to be served to him! I couldn't believe all the above and beyond she did and made happen.
My husband got transferred to the in-house Physical Therapist on a different unit and Sherri still made time to visit him and even call to joke around keeping his spirits up. I just can't express how much we have both appreciated her compassion and dedication. Again, the staff at Beaumont is amazing. Everything has been handled so quickly, explained thoroughly and very smooth. We have met some truly wonderful, talented people there and are so thankful for everything. Thank you!

The Orthopaedic unit has been privileged to have Sherri as an RN for almost 20 years. She consistently exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award. Her sense of humor, leadership, clinical skills and ability to break down barriers, allow her to see and feel the core concerns of her patients, giving her unparalleled access to care and help. Sherri establishes unique connections with patients and staff as they sense her genuine respect, compassion, and empathy for people. Going above and beyond is not a random act for Sherri, it is the essence of who she is. Sherri is often the focus of patient cards and letters of thanks for their care on 9 South. Perhaps a few of her patient's comments describe her best. "She is truly what a nurse should be." "Over the top with kindness and respect - amazing bedside manner. I absolutely Love Sherry, she shows she loves her job."
