Sherry has been a strong advocate for advanced nursing education and leadership roles for the profession.
Sherry began her career in nursing in the emergency department at LCMH after graduation from MSU in 1978. She attended one of the first ACLS courses offered in the state of Louisiana, served as the hospital’s Assistant Director of Nursing (prior to CNO roles becoming mainstream), served as “VP of Patient Care Services” for more than 20 years, and completed an MSN in Nursing Administration from MUS. Sherry has been active in numerous organizations including the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She has served on the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and served as the President of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Sherry had the dubious honor of being the only member left on the Louisiana Board of Nursing at one point between Louisiana governor changes and board member approval by the incoming governor. She also represented the Louisiana Board of Nursing and the nursing profession as President of the Board for the first legislation providing Advance Practice Nurses prescriptive authority. Sherry has been a strong advocate for advanced nursing education and leadership roles for the profession. Upon leaving a career in executive leadership, she continued to practice in case management and hospice nursing. Sherry has been a powerful influence on not only the profession in our state but advancing the role of nursing within our region. She has mentored and inspired numerous nurses through her career, removing obstacles and challenging them to excel.
