My husband fell and fractured his hip, had surgery and subsequently, due to heart and lung problems ended up in the ICU. In ICU is where we met an angel. We got very close to her as she was his nurse most days we were there. We had so many ups and downs with his health and we felt like she was with us every step of the way. She really showed she cared and her passion for nursing and expertise was exceptional. She became part of our family and not just our nurse. In the end, my husband chose to do comfort and support measures only. Instead of throwing us out of the unit to the medical floor she gave us time to come to grips with his decision. She got the hospice nurse and we were allowed to go straight to hospice. We were even provided a tray of drinks and good food while we waited for transportation to arrive. My husband died a few days later but he did it perfectly and the way he wanted to do it. We are at peace because we know everything possible was done up until he decided comfort measures only. We will never be able to express fully how our angel Sherry helped us. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
