We had a baby at St. Luke’s and our experience with Shey was out of this world. She came in at night shift and she was just a ray of sunshine. I had been laboring most of the day and my body and mind were exhausted, but Shey’s kindness and compassion kept me going. When she came in, she ran into some issues with my room that would upset others, but she kept smiling and fixed any issues she had without letting us know she had any frustration. 

When it became time to push, she helped my husband and I with the pushing process and it was like having a best friend on your side. She was not only my cheerleader, she was an advocate for me when I couldn’t be one. When my son was born, he came out blue and silent, the cord was wrapped around his neck twice. It was sheer pain and panic for my husband, my mother and me. She did not hesitate to step in, talk to me, and hold my hand while the special nursery team came to work on our baby. During those moments, she spoke to me with such genuine concern and compassion, I’ll never forget it. She reminded me to be kind to myself during all the chaos. Our baby was taken to the special nursery, and I had to stay in the room to wait out my epidural. The MINUTE I was able to get up and move, Shey helped me get cleaned up like she was family, and she wheeled me down so I could see my baby for the first time. 

Not only did she treat me like I was the only person in the hospital, but she did the same for my husband and my mom. How often she checked on us and made sure we always had what we needed was just out of this world. I will never forget Shey what she did for us during one of the scariest times as a new mom. Her kindness, genuine concern, and warm heart will always be remembered by me and my family.  I’ll never be able to repay her for what she did for me that night, but I will always be grateful and thankful.
