A patient transferred from the ICU after 2 months of being seriously ill. He was COVID positive, had been in ECMO, still had a trach, and just a lot of other stuff that is difficult for a person to go through. The patient was having difficulty expressing himself. Shiela took the time to put the patient's PMV on and stayed at his bedside for a long time, listening to his concerns. She put the patient's mind at ease and helped him focus on what is happening now. Shiela supported him, encouraged him, and reminded him of how far he has come in 2 months. She was unbelievably caring and compassionate. Shiela's actions also reminded me of why I became a nurse. She is an inspiration to nurses every day and her patients are always so grateful for her outstanding care.
