In the Maternal & Child Health unit, where every moment holds both joy and vulnerability, Shimaa Mohamed Warda has long been recognized for her unwavering compassion, exceptional clinical skill, and profound commitment to families. Her journey to becoming a DAISY Award recipient began with one extraordinary story that completely reveals the kind of nurse she is.
During a full evening shift, she admitted a paediatric patient with a mother who was noticeably anxious and alone. The mother, new to the country and struggling with limited Arabic and English, showed signs of patient distress that went beyond the physical. While managing the clinical aspects of her care, Shimaa immediately sensed her fear and took the time to sit beside her, using a translator when needed, but also relying on gentle presence, reassuring touch, and simple words of comfort.
Colleagues often say that Shimaa brings sympathy to every patient, no matter how usual or high-risk. She fiercely encourages her patients, mentors new nurses, and transforms fear into assurance with her steady presence. Her encouragement touches not only mothers and their children, but the entire team.
