During a full evening shift, she admitted a paediatric patient with a mother who was noticeably anxious and alone. The mother, new to the country and struggling with limited Arabic and English, showed signs of patient distress that went beyond the physical. While managing the clinical aspects of her care, Shimaa immediately sensed her fear and took the time to sit beside her, using a translator when needed, but also relying on gentle presence, reassuring touch, and simple words of comfort.
