March 2022 Honoree
Shira Kogen, RN, BSN, ONC
Shira was my nurse post-op for my meniscus tear surgery. I immediately loved Shira’s energy, warmth, and sense of humor. It felt like she was an old friend not too long after she first appeared. Shira was kind, helpful, and there every time I needed something. She made sure I was taken care of and given clear instructions every step. Shira stopped by with little stories and suggestions for fun shows to watch. In essence, she made me feel welcome, cared for, and not alone. Shira also took extra care not to just call my prescription in but to make sure they had the medicine, and that it would be filled before she turned over my care to another shift and before I was set for pick-up. As the surgery was in and out, our time together was a few hours, but Shira made it fly by. I almost didn't want to leave. The whole floor was warm and kind. It was true teamwork with individual focus done beautifully. I felt like everyone I encountered on that floor greeted with a smile and wished me a speedy recovery on my way out. It was a special experience, and I am very grateful for Shira and the entire staff for making my day go so easily. When you are taken care of you leave feeling like everything is going to be ok.
Thank you, Shira, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
