Shirley Bowser, BSN, RN III was nominated for the DAISY Award by a former patient’s husband she cared for. In his nomination, the husband stated, “Following a tragic auto crash, shortly after my wife was admitted to NSICU, Shirley demonstrated her sensitivity to patient need by speaking directly to my wife with clear eye contact explaining in a very pleasant voice what would be happening in this unit. Days became weeks (3 total plus 2 days) and that tenderness and sensitivity combined with excellent nursing skills, never diminished. We (family) wish to say “thanks” to all the nurses in NSICU, especially Shirley.”
