Shirley must have spent a whole half an hour giving me advice and tips and overall making me feel so much better about breastfeeding as a whole.
I ended up in the hospital at 4 weeks postpartum for unexpected back surgery and was very concerned about how the anesthesia and medications I would be given might affect my breastmilk. Because this was a spur-of-the-moment surgery, I had no stockpile to feed my baby at home and was pumping while at the hospital to send immediately to my baby. I must have asked every nurse, doctor, and technician that I spoke with about breastfeeding because I was so worried. Someone ended up sending Shirley to me and I could not be more grateful. Shirley came in and discussed every single medication that I had been prescribed and how it could affect my milk, and even brought all sorts of information for me to take home and read in case I forgot anything. She also gave me recommendations on when to best take medicine if I was still worried and helped me with other non-medicinal issues that I was experiencing with breastfeeding. She must have spent a whole half an hour giving me advice and tips and overall making me feel so much better about breastfeeding as a whole. She went above and beyond to help me out and again, and I wasn’t even here in mother baby. I cannot overstate how much I appreciate her taking the time to come and chat with me.
