She comes to know students and their unique stories in order to best support them during their education.
Dr. Gordon exemplifies care and compassion with students and is a role model for Caring-based education. She comes to know students and their unique stories in order to best support them during their education. I recently was involved in a difficult student situation with Dr. Gordon, and she consistently worked to support the student and provide guidance for success while acknowledging the challenges that the student was facing. I relied on her expertise and support for my own support of the student. I have also seen Dr. Gordon take on additional responsibilities in order to contribute to student progression in their respective program.

The qualities that Dr. Gordon displays towards students are also used to assist faculty. She is always willing to listen and offer advice based on her wealth of knowledge in nursing and education. To assist new faculty in reaching their scholarship goals, Dr. Gordon will help them identify key areas for publication and then assist them in writing and publishing. Many faculty at the College have been touched by her generosity in giving of herself and her time.

It is not often that it can be said and be true that “they wrote the book,” but Dr. Gordon, along with her colleagues, did just that, in regards to teaching caring. In using her work on nursing situations, our students can be best prepared to care for their patients without losing sight of “what matters most.”

In review of this nomination, Dr. Gordon exemplifies the standards set out by this award and is highly deserving.
