If Shirley were the face of healthcare for Orlando there would never be any complaints. She was absolutely outstanding. R had prostate surgery and he was very uncomfortable. He also needed the catheter bag emptied every hour because of the flushing (lots of blood!). Shirley never missed and it was a very busy day. R is never sick and has had very little interaction with anyone in the medical field. If I were rating him, I would say he is a first-class husband and a very difficult patient.
Shirley was just wonderful with him, very professional reassuring, kind, and funny. She knew exactly how to reassure him by explaining everything and keeping him comfortable. When it became clear that the surgeon was not going to be able to get to the hospital to discharge R, she contacted Dr. W and got him! Went over everything with him, determined he could indeed go home, stayed after her shift to do all the paperwork, went over everything thoroughly and wheeled him down to the car. All this was on a day when she was flying out to visit her mother. She then followed up by calling us that evening and called again the next morning from Pittsburg. This was world-class nursing. Thank you, and thank Shirley for taking such great care of us!
