Shirley volunteers annually for the "Run for Mercy 5K Run" and actively encourages her peers to sign up. As a member of our sunshine fund, she celebrates co-workers' achievements passionately.
Shirley actively seeks to advance her professional practice by becoming a cardiovascular certified nurse. Leader of the house-wide documentation committee representing ARU. Developed TEE doctors' preference of care list, ensuring consistency of care in this patient population. Instrumental in developing the Biliary Drain Discharge instructions used to educate our patients.
Additionally, she attends continuing education classes on PowerPoint and Excel on her days off and does not request reimbursement because "I want to learn and get better in all aspects as a nurse." Shirley is also co-chair on unit UPC. She is highly respected and volunteers to help her co-workers. She does not wait to be asked but takes initiative. Always with a smile and humble spirit.
