Shocoloa embodies what nursing is all about. She is par excellent in her assessment skills and delivery of competent and quality care. Her bedside manner is warm, engaging, and caring. Her demeanor is nonjudgmental and humble. When Shocoloa entered my daughter's room, she greeted us with a smile, introduced herself, made eye contact and 'touched' the patient with caring hands.
We were visiting my son for Easter and found ourselves here for unresolved acute abdominal pain and vomiting. I should mention that I have been an RN since 1986 when bedside nursing and skills were a priority in nursing school. My daughter was in unrelenting pain and vomiting bile. She was crying and screaming while her body was writhing with each episode. Shocoloa's presence calmed us. She explained the medications before she administered them. She checked on her frequently. Although she never met us a day in her life, she treated my daughter with tender loving, competent care as if we were her loved ones. Shocoloa is completely 'extraordinary'.
