I was called to the hospital for a hip aspiration, and when I came in, I was not expecting to stay. Due to infection, I had to stay several days, and during this time, there was also a major snowstorm for us here in South Carolina.
All of the nurses had to deal with that, along with the fact that I was the only patient they now have left on their floor. They then moved me up a floor to maternity and took care of me one-on-one, as I was the only patient left. The fact that some of the nurses had to spend the night, with one nurse driving in on a 4x4. And, the story continues.
There was not one moment, even on different floors, that I felt neglected, not totally paid attention to, treated like a gold star tenant, or an unbelievable hospital. Being in a lot of pain with no family, and due to the snowstorm, friends weren't even able to make it to the hospital to visit. It was a very lonely time, except for the way the nurses and staff made me feel while I was there.
Words cannot really express how lonely I felt, and they did not ignore this situation. They went above and beyond, making an unbearable situation bearable. They aren't kidding when they say God selects the strong ones to be nurses. I am eternally grateful for the care I was given.
