October 2022 Honoree
Shu-Yin Wang, RN, BSN RNC-NIC
Today I had a patient who had been traumatized from previous IV insertions at other hospitals. The mom had said that the patient had even required sedatives in the past to relieve her anxiety. I paged Shu Yin and voiced the mom’s concerns of not wanting to premedicate her child and the child’s history and anxiety. Shu Yin responded in such a positive manner and arrived to the bedside promptly. She took her time explaining everything she was doing and had such a calm demeanor that rubbed off on the patient. She made up a story about the IV and was able to distract the patient so effortlessly. She sang with the patient as she inserted the IV, doing so quickly that it was over in a second. The mom was very appreciative of Shu Yin and her excellent bedside manner. I am so thankful for Shu Yin’s expertise and positivity; CHLA is very lucky to have her!
Thank you, Shu-Yin, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
