I nominated Siarra for the DAISY Award because of her alert, expert, and compassionate care during my multi-day stay in this unit, not just for her general demeanor, professionalism and excellence demonstrated, but by every member of the staff I encountered.

This nomination is to call out a particular event early one morning when I awoke to great distress and discomfort, finding out later that I was experiencing pulmonary edema. She arrived quickly and assessed the situation quickly. Without knowing my dire situation at first, I kept gasping for incrementally smaller and smaller gasps of air as she added oxygen to my intake, procured and administered diuretic medicine on standby, encouraged me to breathe efficiently and “not talk” until the medicine took effect and finally started relieving my terror. Throughout what felt like it could have been my last minutes on Earth, she was calm, purposeful, encouraging, and compassionate.
