Sometimes bad things happen, but in the middle of all the bad, there can still be light. For us, it was my mom's nurse Sierra.
• Sierra is an awesome nurse that takes time with her patients and has great communication skills. She is very patient and thorough. She takes the time to explain things and gives students opportunities to practice their skills. • Thank you for being a great teacher and taking the time to share your knowledge. I enjoyed my clinical with you. • The care and attention to detail that was provided by Sierra were 2nd to none. Her service far surpassed any expectations I had. My stay would not have been the same without her. She is a 100%winner. • Sierra went out of her way to make me feel welcome. I know this may sound silly, but she handed me a pair of gloves in each of the rooms we entered - and it just made me feel like I was being included. Such a small thing, but it meant a lot. Thanks for being wonderful. • Sierra was a great teacher. She provided very therapeutic communication with her patients. She is organized and efficient. Sierra provided numerous learning opportunities for me and I am so grateful. • Sierra is organized, personable and competent as a nurse and a teacher. She encouraged my autonomy and showed me what being a great nurse means. She is patient and hardworking. Sierra gave me valuable advice that a new nurse needs. A wonderful RN and a huge asset to your team. Thank you. • She is a fantastic nurse who treats each patient in a way that makes them feel special.

During my 10-day stay in the hospital, I had many struggles. This was the first time I had ever been in the hospital as a patient. Being away from my family was a tremendous struggle. Sierra provided the highest quality care I could have possibly asked for. While my spirits were low, she handled me by simply being engaging and helping shed light on a tough situation. I can honestly say that her work impacted me in the most positive way possible. I am so thankful for her hard work, professionalism, and kindness. Her quality of service goes beyond anything I have ever experienced. I am known to be hard to please, but Sierra blew me away. Anyone that finds themselves in her care is very lucky.

Sometimes bad things happen, but in the middle of all the bad, there can still be light. For us, it was my mom's nurse Sierra. My mother, 94 years old, with clarity of mind, but blind and hard of hearing was admitted to Saint Mary's Hospital. I spent the better part of two weeks with my mom, observing the care she was given and the bond that was created between me and Sierra. I was able to observe Sierra's attentive, steady, confident, and calm demeanor. She spoke to my mom and made sure she understood what was happening. There were four doctor changes - Sierra helped to interpret and advocate to keep us on course when the doctors changed shifts. She was our constant. She kept us informed as to what was happening. She made sure the nursing shift changes understood not only my mother's condition but her disabilities. She was an advocate when we needed one. During those two weeks, she worked long hours, an eighteen, three twelves, and ended on an eighteen. Not only was she amazing with my mom, but I observed her with several nursing students. She was patient, nurturing, and confident. I thought wow, they are so fortunate to have her as a mentor. When her Friday came and it was time for her to take her days off, she made sure we knew how to reach her if something happened. When she returned, we asked for her to be reassigned to my mom. When my mom's time was near, she made sure that my mom was comfortable, but she also took care of us as a family. She was our light in a time of darkness. I want to thank all of the staff at Saint Mary's for the care we received, but Sierra went above and beyond and will always be remembered for that.
