Our lives were turned upside down as M started her 5-day stay at Essentia Health. Sierra was M's nurse the evening that her heart rate started to climb, and we were concerned and started asking questions and pushing for a doctor to take another look. M's condition was somber and critical, and Sierra made her way gracefully and professionally around the little hope we were holding, and the reality of her prognosis. She reached out to the doctor immediately per our request, she did not lose her patience with family members that were feeling the strain, she noticed the pupil reflex change and she navigated the tough conversation we had with the doctor that evening.
Sierra was soft, yet strong. She was personable and caring. Sierra, along with all the nursing staff, treated M and all of her visiting family and friends with respect and care. We can't thank you all enough. I know we are leaving some out but please know that is not our intention, as everyone who worked in CCU deserves recognition. We were in the hospital for 5 days and in and out all of us were touched by the diligence, genuine concern, kindness, compassion, and attention to detail.
As we walked M down the hall to be greeted by the Life Source surgery team, the doctors, nurses, and staff lined the hallways and there were many wet eyes. You can't teach love and compassion; you must recruit the right people and nurture it. You have done an excellent job, thank you. You made all the difference to our family. A huge difference.
