Sierra was my father's ICU nurse. He was on a vent and had been on a vent for several days. His health had always been good, and he had a cold and ended up having a cardiac arrest and was on a vent. This alone was traumatic for my family, and we sat at his bedside 24/7. His health didn't seem to really be improving. 

One night, my son and I were with my dad, and he seemed to quickly head in the emergent direction. The way Sierra handled the situation showed just how great she is at her job and what an asset she is to your ICU team. We were already emotional, and it was obvious by his vitals something was wrong, and Sierra acted quickly and was still able to explain to us in a way we understood exactly what was happening. Even though she was moving with a sense of urgency, she remained calm and was able to explain to us exactly what was happening and help me stay calm.

It was very intense and scary for a while, but she was so calm and able to work so well under the stress. It may have been a normal Thursday for her, but for us, it was one of the scariest nights, and because of her training, professionalism, empathy, care, and compassion, it ended up with a much better ending!
