My husband was admitted after having a seizure and being brought in by an ambulance during the early evening. As soon as we were brought to the third floor, Silas joined us, and I was finally spoken to and had everything explained to me by Silas.

Up to that point, it had simply been a lot of extremely short conversations, which I understood because I realized that the ER department is extremely busy. My husband, a 43-year-old relatively healthy man, had a seizure for the first time out of nowhere. Silas took his time and was truly amazing.

A few hours after admission to the third floor, my husband had another seizure, which was worse than the first one. Silas reacted within seconds, taking care of my husband, then took the time to explain everything to me. I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown, and Silas took care of me as well as checking on me consistently throughout the night, offering emotional support and making sure I was OK.

After many tests (MRI, CT scan, echo, EEG), doctors came and went. Silas continued to take his time, coming back to explain and answer questions.

At 7:00 PM, Silas came back for his night shift and immediately came and checked on us, and without me even prompting him, he told us that the doctor’s notes from testing came back clear.

I don't think that most nurses have or take the time to worry about family members, but Silas was exceptional. I don't usually do “reviews,” but I think it is important to note how much Silas was our rock through this experience.

This man, Silas, truly cares about his patients and their family members, and it shows. I would not have made it through this experience without him. Every time I thanked him, he gave credit to doctors and his colleagues, but we will never forget Silas and his gentle, caring demeanor.
