She frequently checked on us and just went above and beyond to ensure we understood everything—from ordering a guest meal to his current condition
My husband presented at the Emergency Department with a possible stroke. This was confirmed by the neurologist, as well as through a series of diagnostic procedures. I wanted to take a minute to share our experience with you. We live in Tennessee. My husband was born and raised in Decatur. We were in Decatur, visiting one of his childhood friends.
In the Emergency Department, he was quickly evaluated by the ER physician, went through a battery of tests and labs, was seen by a neurologist and a cardiologist, and was assessed by a speech therapist. The hospitalist took over his care and kept us updated on the results of the tests, eventually sending us to the 6th floor and subsequently admitting him the next day.
We noticed that the DAISY program recognizes outstanding individuals. We found a garden of daisies and two roses on the 6th floor. His RN, Simone, worked the day shift during the weekend. Simone reviewed his meds with him and scheduled them based on his home regimen. She frequently checked on us and just went above and beyond to ensure we understood everything—from ordering a guest meal to his current condition.
Because we live in Tennessee, the case manager faced some additional challenges. Although she was not able to find an inpatient therapy bed near our home, she did find one in Springfield (TN). My husband continues to improve. We wanted to say “thank you” and recognize the St. Mary’s staff who have made his recovery possible.
