I would like to thank my nurse, Sklya Ericksen-Garcia, from Surgical Services. I've had the pleasure of visiting the OR at Lea Regional Medical three times during the last year; once for an emergency procedure and the other two times were for elective cases. During all three of these visits, I had the honor of being one of Skyla's patients, either as my Recovery Room nurse or as my Outpatient Nurse. Each of these times Sklya has put me at complete ease. I am not the best of patients in the recovery room, I have no patience and I am extremely eager to go home. Each of these times, Skyla has been very kind, but firm, as she made sure I did not hop out of the bed and head home. My safety and recovery were her main concern. She would encourage me to hang in there a little longer and then she would assist me with being discharged or returning to the outpatient area. After my emergency surgery, she advocated for me with my physician, in my insistence in being discharged from the Recovery Room since I was definitely not going to spend the night.
Sklya was also my outpatient nurse and her kind, soft manner was very calming, as she completed her task, getting me ready for surgery and receiving me from recovery. I was not only a patient, but I am also an employee at Lea Regional Medical Center and Sklya treated me with utmost courtesy and respect, and never did I feel that my privacy was in jeopardy. Her calm/mild manner is very comforting and reassuring to the patients. She makes having a surgical procedure a very pleasant experience. I feel very confident and proud to recommend Lea Regional to my family and friends, know first hand, that we have just great staff to take care of our patients.
