I was sitting in a class when I began to have consistent contractions. After some time passed, I decided to call my midwife who instructed me to go to LDRP. When I arrived, I was in active labor and alone, waiting for my husband to arrive from home. I was greeted by multiple nurses who were all exceptional. However, my primary nurse Skylar stuck out the most. Everything was happening very quickly, nurses were scurrying around the room to get everything ready for delivery. I was alone, I was nervous, and I was in so much pain. Skylar saw this, she became my support person until my husband arrived. I was informed that labor was progressing too rapidly for me to receive an epidural, which was always my plan. I was scared, I was already in so much pain and Skylar encouraged me. She told me that I could do this all-natural. Even after my husband arrived she remained a huge part of my support system. She stood with me in the shower, rubbing hot water down my back and applying counter pressure through contractions. Her scrubs were soaked but she didn't hesitate to give me, her patient what I needed at that moment. After delivery, my son needed a little extra help to adjust to his new world. While nurses placed oxygen on him and doctors evaluated him, Skylar stayed by my side and talked me through everything going on. After everything calmed down, she told me how amazing I did. I want Skylar to be recognized for her amazing patient care. As a nurse myself, I know how difficult it can be to juggle multiple patients and ensure all patients are getting the emotional support they need. Skylar did it flawlessly. I never once felt like I was a job to her, I felt as though I was a friend. It was the best labor and delivery experience I have had.
